April Ross
April Ross is only one of the few beach volleyball players who have earned medals more than once at an Olympics. Alix Klineman, competing for the first time at the Tokyo Olympics and will attempt to win her third medal. Ross's dream is to earn her first Olympic gold medal. There is a chance that this is her only opportunity, given that she is 39 years old. Her optimism is that she'll be successful in achieving top honours. Ross stated to NBC Boston that if they perform at their very best, or play a great game and they are able to play well, the team can win a gold medal. "I'm planning to test a little luck." Ross, who was born 1982 and was raised in Costa Mesa California with her sister and parents, began participating in athletics at Newport Harbor High School. Ross played in numerous sports while attending Newport Harbor High School. She played basketball and ran track in addition to her volleyball skills in the indoors in her time as a college athlete. She was definitely the best in the game of indoor volleyball. As per her biography her high school days, she was a volleyball player as an outside setter (middle blocker) as well as a setting (outside blocker). For her efforts, she was honored as an 1999 Gatorade Circle of Champions National Player of the Year. She also captured the 2000 Orange County Athlete of the year award for volleyball. Ross and Klineman formed their partnership in 2017, but Ross had been a beach-scene player for years prior to. As a matter of fact Ross has won a number of important tournaments throughout her career along with her two teammates. One of them is a legend. In the period 2007 to 2013 she teamed together with Jennifer Kessy who more recently served as her and Klineman's coach. Kessy and Ross were a formidable force in the international arena, taking home the 2009 World Championship together. At the 2012 Olympic Games, they received the gold medal. Misty May Treanor and Kerri Jennings, the legend team which took home the Olympic gold medal in 2012 in London, beat their opponents to claim the gold medal. Ross Jennings was May-Treanor's replacement as she left the team. They went on to compete for the bronze beach volleyball trophy at the Rio Olympics 2016. They were joined by Walsh Jennings. Ross started her college professional career playing for the Trojans of USC following graduation from high school. It was a long time before Ross went to the sand and turned professional. Ross's Trojans experience was remarkable. Her freshman year in 2000 earned her the Pac-10 as well as NCAA Freshman of the award and become an All-American. In addition, she helped her Trojans to make it to the Final Four. The Trojans suffered a heartbreaking personal loss during her sophomore year, but she still repeated as an All-American. In her last two years, she took the Trojans to the top of the mountain and clinched consecutive national championships. For her part she established herself as a legend when she won the Honda Sports Award for 2003-04. The award is given to the top female college volleyball players across the nation. Ross was an international relations major at USC. Margie Ross, Ross' mother, was never given the chance to watch her daughter become an international beach volleyball star. Ross's mother died of breast carcinoma in 2001. Ross had just become an undergraduate student in the second year at USC. Ross is still awed by her mother who died. Margie continues to be a source of inspiration, both off and on at the beach.
