Nancy Wilson, a jazz performer and a three-time Grammy Award winner was born in Chillicothe, Ohio 20 February 1937, to Olden Wilson, an ironworker. had worked for a long time as housekeeper. Nancy was the youngest out of six kids. Nancy was influenced by her father's musical tastes and the records that were played in her home. At the age of 4, Nancy already knew her destiny was to be a performer. She was able to develop her talents by singing with the church choir. While still in high-school the singer was regularly featured with Skyline Melodies. That same year, Nancy began working at night clubs. Nancy was just 17 when she graduated highschool. After matriculating at Ohio Central State College - which is now Central State University - for one semester, Nancy left to be a professional performer. In 1956, she recorded her debut album in Rusty's Carolyn Club Big Band. They performed together throughout 1956 until 1958. While in the group Nancy recorded her first album with Dot Records. Cannonball addederley advised her to relocate into New York for her career, and in 1959 she relocated in The Big Town. In just a few months she had been singing at The Blue Morocco Night Club which is located at Boston Road near The Bronx. Adderley's representative was able to hear her perform and promptly agreed to sign her. The contract was signed by Capitol Records in 1960. That year, she released her first single. Guess who I saw today. Capitol has released five Nancy Wilson albums within two years. With the help of Adderley's influence she shifted her focus from R&B towards jazz. Nancy Wilson and Cannonball Adderley's collaboration in the year 1962 helped make her a star and her hit Tell Me the Truth was released in 1963. The following year, she was invited to perform in New York's Coconut Grove, the most prestigious club in America.
