Nancy Wilson and Maisie Richardson

Nancy Wilson, a jazz performer and three-time Grammy Award winner was born in Chillicothe, Ohio on the 20th of February, 1937. She was married to Olden Wilson an ironworker who had worked for a long time as a housekeeper. Nancy Wilson was the only baby of six. Nancy loved listening to records from her father as well as his enthusiasm for music. By the age of four, Nancy knew that she would like to become an accomplished musician. She developed her musical talent through participating in choirs of the church. While still in high-school, she appeared regularly with Skyline Melodies. After a few weeks, Adderley's manager heard her singing and hired her. In 1960, she was signed to Capitol Records. That same year she issued her debut single. Guess Who? Capitol issued 5 Nancy Wilson Albums in 2 years. At first, she focused on rhythm and blues, under the influence of Adderley, she shifted away from R&B and embraced music from jazz and torch. Nancy Wilson, Cannonball Adderley together with their 1962 group helped her reach the top. The singer had her breakout song Tell Me the Truth by 1963. Following that year, this led to her being booked at the New York's Coconut Grove - the top nightclub in America.
