Winona Ryder - Winona Lauro Horowitz - was born in Winona Minnesota. Her parents named her after her hometown. Michel Horowitz' father was an editor and writer and editor, as was Cynthia Palmer and her mother. Ryder's father was born into an ethnically Jewish family. Ryder considers her self Jewish. The actress also has a half-sister, Sunyata Jubal. Her younger sibling is Uria. Ryder's family relocated from Mendocino County, California, when she was just seven. At the time, there was no electricity. Ryder was an avid reader and spent her time reading books as she had no television. Ryder began taking acting lessons in the American Conservatory Theatre in 1983 at the age of twelve years old. Ryder landed her first film role on the big screen in 1986, aged 15 years old. old. Ryder was bullied in high school. Her thought was that by becoming an actor, her behavior would be changed. But it wasn't to come to be. It didn't stop her from pursuing dreams.
